On 19 September, Cambridge 2030 hosted its annual Power of Purpose and Partnership event, which brought together individuals committed to facilitating positive change in Cambridgeshire and provided updates on existing collaborative industry-education initiatives.
Held at Jagex HQ and organised pro bono by CC Live, the evening was attended by representatives from public, private, voluntary and community sectors from across the region.
Julie Spence OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, opened the evening before attendees heard from representatives from Costello Medical, Conscious Communications and Cambridge Commodities about B Corp; a growing global movement of companies committed to creating an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system.
This was followed by talks about the iGlü youth space planned for the redeveloped Beehive Centre and construction apprenticeships for those facing homelessness, delivered by Cambs Youth Panel and FutureIN respectively. NHS CPFT’s IPS Referrals then spoke about how it is facilitating pathways back into work for people facing mental health challenges, before Robert Pollock, Chief Executive of Cambridge City Council shared details of the Greater Cambridge Impact Fund, which exists to provide easier access to funding for the 840 charities across Cambridge. Finally, North Cambridge Academy shared details of its ongoing community projects that are helping to transform Arbury before a panel of all of the evening’s speakers invited questions from the audience.
I am so pleased to have seen so many key people attend and commit their support for Cambridge 2030. As a group, we exist to bring together organisations from across the city to turn the dial on Cambridge being the most unequal city in the UK. On behalf of the Cambridge 2030 committee, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended, delivered presentations, exhibited their services, or helped to organise the event.
Events such as our Power of Purpose and Partnership evening remind us of the large numbers of people who are committed to creating a more equal city, but if we are to achieve our long-term goals, it is going to take further collaboration, action, and numbers. If you are interested in becoming more involved in helping reduce inequality in Cambridge, please do get in contact with us.
Julie Spence OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire
