Eboracum Baroque present Handel’s dazzling Dixit Dominus full of virtuosity, vibrant colour, and dynamic energy featuring soloists, chorus and period instrument orchestra. It is such a dramatic piece split across 9 movements and was written for a performance in Rome by Handel in 1707 when he was aged just 22. This piece is a real favourite so we’re delighted to finally be performing it together.
Continuing the Italian theme will be a performance of Vivaldi’s famous, Gloria. This piece was likely to have been written around 1715 for a performance in the Ospedale della Pietà, a girls orphanage when Vivaldi worked in Venice. It has become an incredibly popular piece to perform with its lively rhythmic movements combined with more beautiful and reflective moments.
The performance also features an Oboe concerto by Vivaldi performed by Katie Lewis.
Vivaldi remarkably wrote over 500 concertos in his lifetime. Concerto in D minor, originally began life as a Violin concerto but was re-worked (under Vivaldi’s instruction) for the Oboe.
We’re delighted to be returning to perform at Great St Mary’s Church in Cambridge.
